Thermador Ovens Recall Expanded, Fires Reported

recalled thermador ovenAn oven recall involves about 37,000 Thermador built-in ovens that can overheat and catch fire, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The manufacturer, BSH Home Appliances Corp. of Huntington Beach, Calif., is aware of three incidents, including two that produced fires that damaged cabinets surrounding the oven. The fire risk is due to gaps in the ovens’ insulation that can become overheated, particularly during the oven self-cleaning mode.

Recalled ovens were sold at appliance and specialty stores nationwide from June 2004 through July 2007. Affected units include Thermador Brand built-in double ovens with serial numbers FD8403 through FD8701 and the following model numbers:

  • C272B
  • C302B
  • SEC272
  • SEC302
  • SECD272
  • SECD302

The model and serial numbers can be found under the control panel. (See image.)
