Burn Hazard Prompts Tea Kettle Recall
Martha Stewart and Wild Leaf Tea Co. brand tea kettles have been recalled because the handles can break and consumers can consequently suffer burn injuries, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Copco, a division of Wilton Industries, Inc. of Woodridge, Ill., announced the recall of about 132,000 enameled steel tea kettles after receiving eight reports of handles coming loose or becoming deformed, including one report of a consumer suffering a hand burn injury.
The recalled teapots were sold via mail order, online and by nationwide retailers including Linens ‘n’ Things and Macy’s from October 2005 through January 2010. Consumers should stop using the tea kettles and contact Copco for a refund.
