A potential Salmonella contamination has prompted the recall of Health Valley Organic granola bars by Lovin Oven, LLC of Irwindale, Calif., according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
From the granola bar recall announcement:
“The bars contain organic toasted soy grits supplied by Thumb Oilseed Producers Cooperative of Ubly, Mich., … and no other types of Health Valley brand bars are being recalled.”
The recall includes 6.1-ounce boxes of Peanut Crunch (SKU# 0-35742-15483-4), Dutch Apple (SKU # 0-35742-15482-7 ) and Wildberry (SKU # 0-35742-15481-0 ) chewy granola bars. Consumers should return the recalled granola bars to the place of purchase for a refund. Those who think they may have become sick with a Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) should see a doctor immediately and be tested for the pathogen. Salmonella symptoms can be flu-like in healthy individuals, and may include nausea, abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. A Salmonella infection can be especially serious in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems and could even result in a Salmonella death.
