Listeria in Lobster Seafood Recall

A Listeria contamination risk has prompted a listeria recall of ready-to-eat fresh and frozen lobster meat by Portland Shellfish Company, Inc., according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The listeria lobster recall involves lobster claw and knuckle meat sold frozen and ready-to-eat, under several brand names including:

Portland Shellfish Co.

Claw Island

Craig’s All Natural

Inland Ocean

Recent tests show these products could be contaminated with Listeria, a harmful pathogen that can cause a listeriosis infection.These products were sold nationwide at retailers and wholesalers. Consumers should NOT eat these products.

Listeriosis Symptoms and Dangers

Healthy people may only experience mild symptoms of listeriosis, such as fever, stiffness, headaches, nausea and diarrhea. However, a Listeria infection can be life-threatening especially to young children and the elderly. Listeriosis can cause a stillbirth or miscarriage in pregnant women.
