Truck Accident Risk Prompts Volvo Semi Recall

volvo truck defect lawsuitA Volvo truck recall has been issued due to a hazard that could contribute to a semi truck or tractor trailer accident and injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall involves model year 2001 through 2006 Volvo trucks that may have a defect that could cause a truck driver to lose steering control, which increases the risk of a semi truck accident.

More than 60,000 Volvo semi trucks are affected by this recall. According to the NHTSA announcement:

“Volvo Trucks is recalling certain model year 2001-2006 VNL and VNM trucks manufactured with a TRW sealed drag links. Certain factors can exist, which if left untreated, may result in a ball socket separation. Ball socket separation at the drag link results in complete loss of steering, and therefore, can result in a vehicle crash.”

Dealers will inspect and repair as necessary the ball sockets and drag link. Owners may contact Volvo.

The condition of commercial trucks is strictly regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. These regulations include provisions for the proper functioning of truck parts such as brakes, tires, etc., so that these parts are safe for operation and do no jeopardize the safety of other motorists. Truck accident lawyers who represent truck accident victims will investigate the condition of the truck and maintenance records to see if the trucking company, driver, manufacturer or others were aware of a defect and allowed the vehicle onto public roadways anyway. This may be grounds for a truck accident injury lawsuit.
