J. Hellman Frozen Foods, Inc., a Los Angeles-based company, is initiating the recall after a random sample test done by the FDA showed positive results for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. This is a harmful pathogenic bacteria that can cause a Listeria infection, which is called listeriosis. Listeriosis symptoms include gastrointestinal problems such as nausea and diarrhea. These infections can be particularly serious in pregnant women and can cause stillbirth or miscarriage even if the mother’s symptoms are mild.

The recalled avocado product was distributed in California and Hawaii. The Señor Mexicano™ Avocado Pulp came in 2lbs bags with UPC Code 7 503012 650001 and Lot number: A 21 04 10 / A 21 04 12. The company has notified recipients of the products and directed distributors to remove the product from shelves. Consumers should check refrigerators and freezers for this product and dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
