Electrical Shock Prompts Powertec Drill Press Recall

powertec drill defect shock lawsuitAn electrical shock risk has resulted in a drill press recall by Southern Technologies in Mundelein, Illinois, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The Powertec Drill Presses are being recalled after one report of a consumer who received an electrical shock due to a defect in the drill press. The defect arises from wires in the drill’s motor housing that can potentially be pinched, which poses an electrical shock risk to the person operating the drill press. The recalled product is a Powertec 8″ Drill Press with AC powered laser, with the model number DP800. The model number is located on a label above the handle on the tool’s right side.

The potentially defective drill presses were sold at Blain’s Farm and Fleet stores nationwide between November 2009 and February 2010. They cost roughly $80. Owners should NOT use the recalled drill presses and return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
