Ready Pac Baby Spinach Recall Due to E. coli Contamination

ready pac spinach ecoli lawsuitReady Pac Foods of Irwindale, California has announced a recall of more than 700 cases of baby spinach due to a random sample test by government health officials that indicated the presence of E. coli, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The products being recalled are 6-ounce bags of Spinach Temptations baby spinach, sold in California, Arizona and Washington. They include the following information:

  • Use by Dates of July 4 with Product Code 11707B, IR127121
  • Use by date July 8 with Product Code 12007B, IR130373

This information can be found on the upper left corner of the bag. According to the FDA:

“Ecoli 0157:H7 is an organism that may cause diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death.”

This recall affects not only consumers but retailers as well, since the use-by dates are still in effect. Consumers should NOT use the product if they have it at home and may obtain a refund.
