An earlier July 2 recall of potentially E. coli-contaminated ground bison and tenderized bison steak products has been expanded, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The original recall included 66,000 pounds of bison products that could be contaminated with E. coli. The recall was issued after five people in Colorado and one person in New York became sick with E. coli poisoning associated with these products. According to the recall expansion announcement:
“This recall release is being reissued to revise the July 2 recall to include approximately 776 additional pounds of bison products that were distributed to a firm in Nevada for further processing.”
The list of retail distributors has also been update for this recall. It now includes:
- Albertsons
- Giant Food
- Hannaford’s
- King Soopers’s
- Kroger’s
- Market Basket
- Price Chopper’s
- Stop & Shop Supermarket

Retail distribution lists will be updated by the FSIS as information becomes available.
