Boncheff and Wegmans Cilantro and Parsley Recall Due to Salmonella Risk

Boncheff Greenhouses, Inc. of Toronto, Ontario recalled cilantro and parsley after the company received products that had been recalled. The parsley and cilantro involved in this recall were distributed to various retailers in New York State and Pennsylvania. The items were sold between December 14th and December 28th, 2010. No illnesses have been reported to date.

This cilantro and parsley recall is related to a voluntary recall from J & D Produce Edinburg, Texas which packs under the Little Bear Brand Cilantro, Curly Parsley, and Italian Plain Parsley. This product was purchased and shipped on Dec 6, 2010 to Boncheff Greenhouses where it was repacked and distributed.

The items were sold under the following labels:

Wegmans Food Markets (sold in two stores in Erie, PA and in New York state stores except Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, and Johnson City) – Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Cilantro (UPC: 6-25647-80104), Curly Parsley (UPC: 6-25647-80110), and Italian Parsley (UPC: 6-25647-80125) sold in 0.25 ounce poly sleeves. Related J & D Produce Recall

December 28, 2010 – Following confirmation from regulators of a positive test for salmonella on curly parsley in Quebec and cilantro in Detroit, J&D Produce Inc. recalled these two items and other potentially affected products packed only Nov. 30 and Dec. 6, 2010. There have been no reported illnesses.

To further ensure public health, additional produce commodities were recalled due to the possibility of cross contamination from having been run on the same packing lines as the curly parsley and cilantro. The Products Being Recalled, PLU/UPC Number, and Areas Where Distributed are listed below.

All commodities are packed in red, white, and blue waxed cartons under the Little Bear brand. The individual bunches are banded, except for Diakon, using a rubber band or a twist tie identified by a flag tag that shows a little bear with a cowboy hat, a red handkerchief and a Texas flag.
