Fresh Foods Concepts Recall of Dip Due to Possible Listeria Contamination
Fresh Foods Concepts of Buena Park, California, is voluntarily recalling various Layer Dip products containing avocados due to a potential Listeria contamination. Illness linked to consumption of these products have not been reported. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections and poses a particular threat to young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
The recalled products were distributed to stores nationwide and all have expiration dates of 9/6/11 and before. They include:

The illness associated with Listeria is listeriosis, which can cause serious illness, including sespticemia, pneumonia, and meningitis. In pregnant women, listeriosis usually causes a mild, flu-like illness followed by miscarriage, stillbirth, or bacteremia and meningitis in newborns. The time period between consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and the onset of listeriosis can be as long as 70 days.
