Listeria Risk Prompts New York Deli Meat Recall

deli meat listeriaDeli meat potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes has been recalled by Zemco Industries of Buffalo, New York, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall includes about 380,000 pounds of deli meat products that were distributed to delis that then further processed the meat into sandwiches. Recalled products have vendor number “398412808″ and were produced between June 18 and July 2, 2010.

Fresh Express Listeria Salad Recall

The recall affects units with a Product Code of I208 and Use-by Date of August 10, 2010. Consumption of Listeria-contaminated foods can lead to listeriosis, which can lead to sespticemia, pneumonia, and meningitis. 

Valley Meat Ground Beef E. coli Recall and Outbreak

An E. coli beef recall has followed a California E. coli outbreak that has sickened 7 people, health officials say. Valley Meat Company of Modesto, California is recalling one million pounds of frozen ground beef patties and other ground beef products because they could be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) notified the FSIS of a cluster of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses in mid-July. The illnesses shared the same PFGE type, or “genetic fingerprint.”
