A Toyota Prius Hybrid brake investigation of model year 2010 vehicles is being launched due to reports of malfunctioning brakes, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced. The NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation has received 124 consumer reports of brakes momentarily malfunctioning, including four allegations of accidents resulting from the potential brake defect. A Toyota recall was issued in late January due to reports of the cars’ accelerator pedals sticking, increasing the risk of a car accident. In the initial Toyota recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Toyota had not yet proposed a plan of action to fix the 2.3 million vehicles with the potentially sticky accelerator pedals.

Toyota Recall due to Reports of Accelerator Sticking
A Toyota recall involves accelerators that may become stuck, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). “Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position,” Toyota USA vice president said in a statement. A potentially dangerous condition such as this can increase the risk of a car crash.
Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Recalls due to Brake Failure Risk
A Chrysler brake recall has been announced for vehicles that could pose a brake failure risk because they may have been manufactured with “an improperly formed or missing brake booster input rod retaining clip.” Sudden brake failure can increase the risk of a car accident.
About 24,177 units are affected, including 2010 models of the following vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):
Winnebago Motor Home Recall
Winnebago Industries, Inc., announced a motor home recall. The seats in certain 2010 Winnebago Views and Itasca Navions (pictured) are missing a reinforcing plate, and thus fail to comply with seating systems and seat belt assembly requirements from the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Dealers will replace the component free of charge.
