Child Injuries Prompt Push Around and Whisper Ride Buggies Recall

defective childrens toyDozens of child injuries have prompted the recall of 2.5 million potentially defective Push Around and Whisper Ride buggies, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The manufacturer, Step 2 Company of Streetsboro, Ohio has received 28 reports of the buggy handle detaching due to a loose pin. Two of these incidents involved child injuries that required professional medical attention and 26 involved scrapes and scratches. The toys come in various colors and have a red “Step 2″ logo on the handle.

Some products may contain particles, the New York Times reported. “The particles may be solidified product ingredients or manufacturing residue such as tiny metal specks,” Marc Boston, a McNeil spokesman, told the Times.

Evenflo Wooden Gate Recall After Falls, Injuries

Evenflo gate recallA child safety product recall has been issued for Evenflo wooden gates after 142 incident reports, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

About 150,000 Evenflo Top-of-Stairs Plus Wood Gates are being recalled after 142 reports of slats breaking or detaching from the gates. Several children fell through the gates and down stairs as a result of broken or detached slats.

High Chair RecallA Graco Harmony high chair recall has been issued after 24 fall injuries reported, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

There have been 464 incidents of loose screws and/or cracked brackets in the high chairs, which have caused the high chairs to tip over, according to reports made to Atlanta-based Graco Children’s Products Inc.

Britax Stroller Recall Over Laceration, Amputation Hazard

Britax recalled strollerA Britax stroller recall involves about 14,000 “Blink” umbrella strollers from Charlotte, N.C.-based Britax Child Safety, Inc., the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. Children’s fingers can get caught in the stroller hinge and become cut or potentially amputated if the stroller is folded.

The recalled defective strollers have the word “Blink” printed on the metal frame on both sides below the handles. They were manufactured between May and September of 2009 and sold at Buy Buy Baby and other children’s product and mass merchandise retailers nationwide. The strollers were also sold online at Amazon.com, BabiesRUs.com, Target.com and Diapers.com from July 2009 through February 2010.
