Wind Chime Toy Recall After Laceration Reported

Wind chime hazard diagramA wind chime toy recall has bee issued by Tiny Love Inc., a New York company, in conjunction with Huntington Beach, Calif.-based Maya Group Inc., the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.

The wind chimes can be easily pulled apart exposing sharp metal rods, which, in once instance, allowed a 24-month-old to cut his cheek. Tiny Love is aware of five reports in all that involves toys coming apart and sharp edges being exposed.

Discovery Kids Lamps Recall due to Fire and Burn Hazard

Recalled Discovery Kids Safari LampA lamp fire hazard prompted a Discovery Kids Animated Marine and Safari lamp recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced. The recall of 360,000 kids lamps comes after the company, Innovage LLC of California, received nine incident reports, including seven situations in which lamps caught fire, one involving a child smoke inhalation injury and three property damage reports.

The decorative lamps are silver with rotating marine life or safari scenes. The lamps have a defect in their circuit board that can cause an electrical short, which is the source of the burn hazard and fire risk to consumers.

Dollar General Toy Gun Recall due to Choking Hazard

Recalled toy gun setA toy gun recall involves Special Forces and Police SWAT toy gun sets that pose a choking hazard to children, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The orange tips at the end of the toy gun barrel can come loose and easily be swallowed by a small child, potentially blocking airways. About 9,600 sets are being recalled by retailer Dollar General of Goodlettsville, Tenn. The defective toys were manufactured  by Dolencorp, LLC, also based in Goodlettsville, Tenn.

RadioShack Toy Helicopter Fire Hazard Recall

recalled helicopterA RadioShack remote control helicopter recall was initiated after a fire was reported at a retail location while the toy was charging, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. The battery housing under the helicopter can overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers. About 6,000 Danbar Toys  Knight Hawk 3D remote control helicopters are being recalled by Fort Worth, Texas-based RadioShack. The helicopters’ remote controls have the model number 006047 on the back and the toys were sold at Radio Shack nationwide and at www.radioshack.com from October 2009 through November 2009. Owners should immediately take the toys from children and return them to the nearest RadioShack location for a full refund.

Lead Paint Toy Recall Involves Walmart Horse Figurines

recalled horse figurineA lead paint toy recall involves about 15,000 Nature Wonders HD Pinto Horse toy figurines imported by Minneapolis, Minn.-based Blip Toys,  the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. The paint on the toys’ surface contains high levels of lead, which violates federal lead paint standards and therefore poses a lead poisoning risk to children playing with the toys. The horse figurines were sold at Walmart stores nationwide from January 2009 through July 2009 and had tags bearing the model number 92093 and the phrase “Nature Wonders HD.” Parents should immediately take the potentially dangerous toys away from children and contact Blip Toys for a free replacement toy.

Magnetix Recall Over Intestinal Injuries, Death

Magnetix Toy RecallMagnetix Magnetic Building Sets are associated with one child’s death and at least 27 intestinal injuries since their initial recall in spring 2006, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The powerful magnets in these toy building sets, made by  Rose Art Industries Inc., (now known as MEGA Brands America Inc.) can come loose from plastic cases and can stick together inside the intestinal tract of a child who swallows them. This can cause intestinal perforation and blocking.
