Kleoppel Meats Products Recalled, Production Halted

The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) has recalled 320 pounds of meat and temporarily stopped all cooked-meat processing at Kleoppel Meats d.b.a Alma Meats in Alma, Mo. after discovering that  Lafayette County meat processor was selling meat to its consumers had not been inspected and was improperly handled.

Members of MDA’s Meat and Poultry Inspection Program discovered the violations during a January 4 inspection of  the business, operated by Terry Kleoppel. According to the records,  some products, prepared between Nov. 14, 2011 and Nov. 23, 2011, were sold to Trinity Lutheran School in Alma. No illnesses have been reported in conjunction with this recall. An investigation by the MDA and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is ongoing.

The recalled products include: is summer sausage, snack sticks, beef jerky and roast pork. They are:

California Beef Recall Includes Products Sent to Restaurants in California and Nevada

Below is the USDA-FSIS announcement of a recall of beef processed in California and shipped to restaurants in California and Nevada and to a Federal establishment for further processing. Commercial Meat Co., a Los Angeles, Calif., establishment is recalling approximately 377,775 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The following ground beef products are subject to recall:

  • 5,10,15,20,30,40,50 and 60 lb. cases of bulk ground beef
  • 5,10 and 20 lb. cases of ground beef patties
  • 10,15,20,30,40 and 50 lb. cases of ground beef taco
  • 5,10,15,20,25,30,40,50 and 60 lb. cases of ground beef chili

Each case bears a label with the establishment number “EST. 4873″ inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products subject to recall were produced between Sept. 7, 2011 and Oct. 6, 2011 and were shipped to restaurants in California and Nevada, as well as one Federal establishment in California for further processing.

The problem was discovered through routine FSIS monitoring which confirmed a positive result for E.coli O157:H7. The company did not hold product pending test results, resulting in this recall. FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Michigan E. coli Ground Beef Recall Announced

Michigan E. coli Outbreak Update: The number of E. coli victims has risen. A total of five confirmed Shiga-toxin producing E. coli cases and four probable cases have been reported in Lapeer, Genesee, Isabella, and Sanilac counties. Illness onset dates range from July 18-30. Those affected range in age from 15-88.

An E. coli O157 ground beef recall has been announced by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. North Branch, Michigan-based McNees Meats and Wholesale LLC.,is recalling about 360 lbs of ground beef product that could be contaminated with the dangerous pathogen E. coli O157.

Ground Beef E. coli Recall Product Description

  • 36 – 10 lb. Bags of McNees Ground Beef Bulk. Establishment number: EST. 33971

The recalled beef products were produced July 15 and 21, 2011. They were sold in Armada, Lapeer and North Branch, Michigan and also in a retail establishment owned by McNees Meats and Wholesale, LLC.

E. coli Ground Beef Illness Investigation

FSIS began investigating E. coli illnesses in Michigan on August 4, 2011 and continues to investigate in conjunction with the Michigan Departments of Community Health (MDCH) and Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). FSIS has determined that three E. coli illnesses that developed between July 18 and July 28, 2011 are associated with these ground beef products.

BJ’s Wholesale Club: Ground Beef Recalled for Possible E coli 026 Contamination

Cargill Meat Solutions Corp., Wyalusing, PA, has recalled approximately 8,500 pounds of ground beef. To date, all of the hamburger in this recall was distributed to BJ’s Wholesale Club stores (see the BJ’s Wholesale Club ground beef recall list). A multi-state outbreak of illnesses caused by E coli 026 has been associated with Cargill ground beef. The USDA reported that Maine and New York have confirmed cases of E. coli O26. Most E. coli outbreaks linked to hamburger tend to sicken people in many states due to the way ground beef is distributed and repackaged.

Cargill Ground Beef Recall: Link to E. coli 026 Contamination – BJ’s Wholesale Club

Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, has issued a recall of approximately 8,500 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O26. The recall was issued following a cluster of confirmed E. coli 026 illnesses in Maine and New York.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) were first notified of the E. coli 026 outbreak August 5, 2010. Two E. coli 026 cases have been identified in Maine, as well as one in New York. By PFGE subtyping, the FSIS determined that there is an association between the ground beef products subject to recall and the cluster of illnesses in Maine and New York.

Safeway Recalls Frozen Ground Beef Patties

Safeway Inc. is voluntarily recalling Butcher’s Cut frozen ground beef patties that may be contaminated with E coli 0157:H7. These products were sold in Safeway, Vons, Pavilions and Pak ‘N Save stores in California, Hawaii and Nevada. This frozen ground beef patties recall is in cooperation with the beef recall by Valley Meat Company.
