A Salomon USA ski boot recall is being issued after several reports of knee injuries and a fractured leg, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The Ogden, Utah company is recalling Salomon “Quest Touring Pads” and Salomon “Quest Pro Pebax” and “Quest Pro” touring-style ski boots because the toe of the boot pad can release suddenly from the ski binding which increases the risk of a ski accident injury. Some of the recalled products were sold only as boot pads and some were pads sold with boots. According to the recall announcement:

“The sole pads have visible steel inserts intended to make these Quest touring-style sole pads compatible with a specific type of touring-style ski binding, commonly referred to by back-country skiers as a ‘low-tech binding.’”

The potentially hazardous ski boots and boot pads were sold at Salomon USA dealers in Colorado, Utah, Vermont and Washington between February and April 2010. Owners should not use the recalled ski boots and may return them to any Salomon ski dealer for a refund.

Defective Products: Injury Liability Laws

Under product liability law, if a victim suffers an injury due to a defective product, the victim may be able to file a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer and/or distributor of the product and possibly other parties. Victims may be able to receive compensation for medical bills, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, pain and suffering, among other thigns.

Bad Boy Enterprises announced the recall of certain 2009 and 2010 Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) in both the Classic and Stretch models. They were manufactured between November 2009 and May 2010. A defect may allow the accelerator pedal to become damaged because of water exposure, which could send an inaccurate voltage reading, triggering a chain reaction causing sudden, unintended acceleration, which could lead to an ATV/LSV accident and/or injury.

ATV Accident and Rollover Lawsuits

ATV/LSV vehicles that are defective have been associated in the past with serious accident and injury lawsuits, such as the Yamaha Rhino lawsuits being handled by the product liability and vehicle accident injury attorneys at Pritzker Olsen law firm. People who own a defective ATV or LSV vehicle should stop using it immediately and contact the vehicle dealer or manufacturer for more information.

There have been six reports of fuel leaks, including three vehicle fires and one instance of snowmobile riders suffering burn injuries. The fuel hose and electronic control unit can rub together, causing friction that can wear down the fuel hose. This could result in a fuel leak, which poses a serious fire hazard and a burn injury hazard to the operator of the snowmobile.

Boat Trailer Defect Accident Lawsuit

A defective boat trailer hitch can contribute to or cause a serious or even fatal car accident. For example, one lawsuit was settled for $350,000 when a defective boat trailer was being pulled by a drunk driver. The boat trailer came loose, partly due to a product defect and partly due to the drunk driver hitting a curb with the trailer. Once the trailer came detached, it hit another vehicle and immediately killed the driver.

An injury hazard has prompted a utility snow sled hitch recall by Pelican International, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.

Screws in the hitch could loosen and fall because of vibrations when the sled is used to tow cargo. This could cause the sled to detach from a vehicle towing the cargo and poses an injury and accident hazard to those using the hitch and those in the surrounding area. There have been 10 reports of screws coming loose. The recalled utility sled hitches were sold at Paricon Inc., VG Grace and other sports retail locations nationwide from Jan. 2007 through Dec. 2009 alone and as a combination with the sled.

Defective Snow Sled Hitch Product Description

The black metal tow hitch pivot is just under 10 inches long and 4 inches in diameter and is used with the Pelican Snow Trek Utility Sled to connect the utility sled to a vehicle such as a snowmobile.
Recalled sled hitches include the following models:

Thousands of snowboard boot bindings are being recalled by Rome Snowboards Co., of Vermont, because the base plate of the binding can break in cold temperatures which could lead to a snowboard fall or injury. The firm has received 14 reports of snowboard bindings breaking in this fashion, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Serious injuries from snowboarding and skiing (paraplegics, serious head injuries like traumatic brain injury and others) occur at the rate of about 42 per year, according to the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA).

Defective Snowboard Binding Description from the CPSC

“This recall involves the Rome Snowboards Co. 2010 United snowboard bindings. The bindings come in black and red color themes and in sizes small, medium and large.
The bindings were sold at sporting retailers from September 2009 through December 2009. Owners should stop using them and contact Rome Snowboards for replacements.
