snowboard injury due to defective bindingsThousands of snowboard boot bindings are being recalled by Rome Snowboards Co., of Vermont, because the base plate of the binding can break in cold temperatures which could lead to a snowboard fall or injury. The firm has received 14 reports of snowboard bindings breaking in this fashion, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Serious injuries from snowboarding and skiing (paraplegics, serious head injuries like traumatic brain injury and others) occur at the rate of about 42 per year, according to the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA).

Drowning Hazard Prompts Dive Computer Recall

dive computer drown hazardCertain Mares Nemo Air Dive Computers are being recalled because of a potential malfunction that can pose a drowning risk to divers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.

Mares USA of Boca Raton, Florida is issuing the recall after the discovery was made that an O-ring in the high pressure air connector can potentially leak air, which would cause a slow and steady loss of breathing gas to the diver, posing a drowning hazard.

Bike Handle Recall After Injuries Reported due to Defect

Defective Bike HandleA Ventus Bicycle Aerobar handle bar recall due to a fall and bike accident hazard has been announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The rubber hand grips on these specific types of handle bars, known as aerobars, can become loose, posing a fall risk to the bike rider. The handlebar manufacturer, 3T Cycling Srl, of Italy, is aware of two incidents of adult bike injuries involving minor abrasions.

Machete Injuries and Laceration Hazard Prompts Recall

defective machete handleA sporting goods recall involves Gerber Gator Machetes that pose a laceration hazard and have injured five people, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recall involves about 149,000 Gerber Gator Machetes and about 6,000 Gator Machetes Jr. imported by Gerber Legendary Blades of Portland, Ore., a division of Fiskars Brands Inc. of Madison, Wis. According to the recall announcement:

 

“The saw side of the machete can stick in wood during use, and if the user’s hand slips off the handle and slides forward across the machete blade, this poses a laceration hazard. Gerber has received five reports of individuals cutting themselves while using the Gator Machete, all of whom required stitches. Gerber has received no reports of injuries associated with use of the Gator Machete Jr.”

The Gator Machetes with modified handles are NOT included in this recall (bottom image). Consumers should check their machete to determine if it is included in the recall. If it is, stop using the recalled machete and contact Gerber about a free replacement machete.

Arctic Cat Snowmobile Recall due to Fire Hazard

Arctic Cat 500 Sno ProAn Arctic Cat snowmobile recall involves about 1,300 snowmobiles that pose a fire and burn hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn. is aware of two reports of fuel leakage near the fuel pump mounting screws. This leakage could result in a snowmobile vehicle fire and possibly a burn injury to the driver.
