The recall affects more than 1,000 trucks that were manufactured between February 2007 and May 2010. A seal on the fuel cap assembly of the dual-fill gas tanks in these vehicles were made with hose material that was not in compliance with design specifications. This hose material can deteriorate and possibly result in a fuel leak, which can pose a serious vehicle fire hazard.

Navistar Workhorse Truck Recall Product Information

Navistar dealers will replace the fuel cap assemblies with new assemblies fitted with the proper hose material for free.

More than 60,000 Volvo semi trucks are affected by this recall. According to the NHTSA announcement:

“Volvo Trucks is recalling certain model year 2001-2006 VNL and VNM trucks manufactured with a TRW sealed drag links. Certain factors can exist, which if left untreated, may result in a ball socket separation. Ball socket separation at the drag link results in complete loss of steering, and therefore, can result in a vehicle crash.”

Dealers will inspect and repair as necessary the ball sockets and drag link. Owners may contact Volvo.

Volvo Semi Recall Product Description

The condition of commercial trucks is strictly regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. These regulations include provisions for the proper functioning of truck parts such as brakes, tires, etc., so that these parts are safe for operation and do no jeopardize the safety of other motorists. • New Flyer industries Ltd. is recalling certain model year 2009 GE40LFR transit buses due to a potential seat belt defect that could increase the risk of a car accident injury. According to the NHTSA, these defective seatbelts, supplied by American Seating are the subject of “Defect Report 09E-065.” According to the announcement the seat belts:

“MAY NOT PROPERLY LOCK UP AND AS RESULT MAY NOT PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE MOBILITY DEVICE WHEN THE BUS DECELERATES. THIS MAY CAUSE THE MOBILITY DEVICE TO ROLL FORWARD UNTIL THE FULL LENGTH OF THE WEBBING IS EXTENDED WHICH CAUSES POTENTIAL FOR MOBILITY DEVICE TIP-OVER RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH.”

New Flyer and American Seating will replace the belts free of charge.

Certain Heil CP Python and Heil Rapid Rail 2006 through 2009 garbage truck bodies are being recalled, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency said:

“Affected bodies are those which have a bolt on rear hinge assembly but do not have structural gussets to reinforce the z-plate. Cracking can occur in the z-plate area and a failure can result when the body is in the raised position during waste unloading procedures.”

This could cause the truck body to become unstable, potentially allowing the truck to roll over and injure workers or bystanders. Dealers will inspect the trucks for free and make necessary repairs.

1. Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling 15,490 trucks with potentially defective axle assemblies. The axle beams, manufactured by Bharat Forge, may have lines on the bottom of the axle due to the trimming process. These lines could cause cracks to form in the axle, which could eventually cause the axle beam to fail, posing a crash risk. Mack will notify owners and replace axle beams when needed on the following  models:

2. Daimler Trucks North America recalled certain model year 2010 Freightliner Cascadia trucks manufactured from May 2009 through January 2009 because a potential steering defect could cause loss of steering control to the driver. According to the NHTSA:
   

   “INCOMPLETE INSTALLATION OF THE PITMAN ARM RETAINING MECHANISM MAY ALLOW UNTHREADING OF THE RETAINER. DISENGAGEMENT OF THE PITMAN ARM FROM THE STEERING BOX MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING AND CRASH COULD OCCUR.”

   Dealers will inspect recalled trucks and make necessary repairs.

3. Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America is recalling 19,728 trucks which may have rubber cushions surrounding air intake ducts that are not sufficiently weather resistant. If the rubber cushions deteriorate and crack, the air intake duct could fall off during vehicle operation, increasing the risk of a truck accident. Dealers will replace defective air intake duct cushions if needed on the following vehicles:

A trailer brake problem prompted Navistar, Inc., to recall 2009 and 2010 models of its International LoneStar and ProStar semi trucks, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The semi truck recall involves 1,437 International ProStar and LoneStar trucks that are equipped with feature code 04AZT roll stability control (RSC) system.

The RSC system is an electronic safety system that involves sensors that detect potential rollover situations, and automatically apply brakes to avoid a rollover. An air line may have been connected incorrectly on the recalled trucks, which affects air modulation to the trailer brakes if the RSC system is activated during a roll stability event. According to the NHTSA:

“LESS THAN OPTIMAL RSC CONTROL OF THE TRAILER BRAKES DURING A ROLL STABILITY EVENT MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH WHICH CAN RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.”

Dealers will inspect and fix the air line that may be incorrectly connected at no charge.

The recalled trucks do not have enough air tanks to allow for proper operation of the vehicle’s air brake system, which could hinder the driver’s ability to stop the vehicle, therefore increasing the risk of a crash involving personal injury or death. Dealers will install and additional air reservoir at no charge.


A Nissan UD 3300 truck recall was prompted by brakes that fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

About 1,166 Nissan trucks were recalled, including model years 1999 through 2010. The insufficient air tank reserve capacity on these vehicles can lead to restricted air supply that hinders brake operation, potentially resulting in reduced braking performance without warning to the driver and increasing the risk of a crash.

First established in 1975, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 (FMVSS 121) is the government regulation that “specifies performance, equipment and dynamometer test requirements for braking systems on vehicles equipped with air brake systems…to ensure safe braking performance under normal and emergency conditions.” The standard also requires certain vehicles to be equipped with antilock brake systems (ABS) and to be able to stop within set stopping distances at certain speeds.
