Botulism Risk Prompts Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Butter Recall
A botulism food poisoning risk prompted Amish Wedding Foods of Millersburg, Ohio to recall pumpkin butter and sweet potato butter, according to an FDA announcement.
Foodborne botulism poisoning is a rare but serious illness that is caused by a potent neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
Herring Recall due to Botulism Risk
A herring recall due to a botulism risk has been issued by Haifa Smoked Fish based in New York, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall involves Haifa brand vacuum-packed whole schmaltz herring bearing the lot number 20 and imported from Norway. During a routine inspection, a New York State Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector found the fish was uneviscerated, meaning the entrails of the fish had not been removed.
