Ozo Gel Fuel Recall Due to Fire, Burn and Explosion Hazards

OZO F-4 Pourable Gel Fuel in quart bottles has been recalled. The manufacturer of the OZO gel fuel is Fuel Barons, Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia, and the distributor is Luminosities/ WindFlame, Inc, of St. Paul, Minnesota. Attorney Elliot Olsen is leading our law firm’s investigation of this recall.

The recall involves pourable gel fuels packaged in clear one-quart plastic bottles, and sold in non-scented formulations. The label on the container says “Fuel Barons, Inc.” and “for fireplace or outdoor party light that has been designed to burn gel fuel.” The fuel is poured into a stainless steel cup in the center of ceramic firepots or other decorative lighting devices and ignited. The Ozo gel fuel was sold online, in specialty and gift shops, home and garden stores nationwide, through home and
garden catalogs and home decorators and landscape architects from October, 2010 until August
2011 for between $4 and $5.

The pourable gel fuel can ignite unexpectedly and splatter onto people and objects nearby when it is poured into a firepot that is still burning. This hazard can occur if the consumer does not see the flame or is not aware that the firepot is still ignited. Fuel gel that splatters and ignites can pose fire and burn risks to consumers that can be fatal. Gel fuel containers can also explode and gel fuel packaging misleads consumers.

Tiki Gel Fuel Recall Due to Serious Burn Risk

Lamplight Farms, Inc. of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, has recalled TIKI brand pourable gel fuels, which were sold in 32 ounce bottles in natural (UPC 086861094105) and citronella (UPC 086861100455) scents. The recall was prompted by

Pourable gel fuels are intended for use only in outdoor decorative ceramic bowls or vessels. TIKI brand torches and other TIKI brand fuels and products are not affected by this voluntary recall.

The Tiki Gel Fuel recall was issued because pourable gel fuel can ignite unexpectedly and splatter onto people and objects nearby when it is poured into a fire pot that is still burning.  This hazard can occur if the consumer does not see the flame or is not aware that the fire pot is still ignited. Fuel gel that splatters and ignites can pose fire and burn risks, including 2nd and 3rd degree burns to the face, chest, arms, hands, or legs. These injuries can be fatal. The gel fuel bottle can also pose an explosion hazard.

Burn Injuries Prompt Grill Recall

hazardous grill recallSeveral burn injury reports have prompted the recall of 4,600 Kuuma Stow and Go grills, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The hazardous grill recall was issued by Eastwind Industries, Inc., of San Leandro, California because the grills can develop a propane tank leak. This can happen if the fuel container isn’t completely threaded on the regulator during installation.

Ice Maker Recall due to Fire Hazard

Ice Maker RecallAn ice maker recall involves Scotsman Commercial Modular Cube Ice machines associated with four reports of fires and 37 reports of burned or melted components, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recalled ice machines (about 43,000 units) pose a fire hazard because an electrical part called a solenoid can fail. The manufacturer, Scotsman Group LLC, of Vernon Hills, Ill. has received no injury reports.
