Pro-Pac Distribution Corporation Get Fine for Failing to Report that it Distributed Sweatshirts with Drawstrings at the Neck

Pro-Pac Distributing Corporation, of Gardena, Calif., has agreed to pay a civil penalty in the amount of $125,000. The penalty settlement resolves allegations that Pro-Pac knowingly failed to report to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) immediately that two different children’s hooded sweatshirts it imported and distributed had drawstrings at the neck. About 7,000 of the recalled sweatshirts were sold under the ProClub label at various retailers in Los Angeles, California and Las Vegas, Nevada from November 2008 through December 2008 for around $20.

Children’s Choking Deaths Prompt Toy Dart Gun Recall

toy choking deathA toy gun recall is being issued after two asphyxiation (choking) deaths of a 9-year-old boy in Chicago, Illinois and a 10-year-old boy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.

The recall of this defective children’s toy involves 1.8 million “Auto Fire” dart gun sets being recalled by Family Dollar Stores, Inc., of Charlotte, N.C. The soft, pliable darts pose a serious choking and asphyxiation hazard to children.

Magnetix Recall Over Intestinal Injuries, Death

Magnetix Toy RecallMagnetix Magnetic Building Sets are associated with one child’s death and at least 27 intestinal injuries since their initial recall in spring 2006, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The powerful magnets in these toy building sets, made by  Rose Art Industries Inc., (now known as MEGA Brands America Inc.) can come loose from plastic cases and can stick together inside the intestinal tract of a child who swallows them. This can cause intestinal perforation and blocking.
