Allergic Reaction Concerns Prompt Turkey Sausage Recall

turkey sausage recallA sweet Italian turkey sausage recall has been issued due to food allergy concerns, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Washington, Ind.-based Perdue Farms, Inc. recalled more than 10,000 pounds of fresh sweet Italian turkey sausage because it contains milk, which is a potential allergen that’s not declared on the product label.

Milk is one of eight foods identified by federal law as being known to cause serious allergic reaction in certain people and are therefore mandated to be declared on food labels, according to the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004.

Pork Cracklins Recall due to Undeclared Milk Ingredients

Pepe’s Gigante Louisiana Hot Sauce Flavored Cracklins have been recalled due to an undeclared allergen, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced. San Bernardino, Calif.-based Rudolph Foods Company, Inc., recalled the 205 pounds of pork skin products known as “cracklins” when it was discovered that their package did not include milk, a known potential allergen, in the list of ingredients. The 3.5-ounce packages have a “03/19/2010″ expiration date and establishment number “EST. 0525.”
